This jetpack blocks all Flash objects. A click on the placeholder loads the removed Flash content.
Roadmap :
- Block Director, Authorware and JAVA objects
-Adapt the placeholder to Firefox 3.6b2+ (new syntax for gradients...)
- Add a whitelist functionality
- Propose H.264-encoded video on Youtube
- Improve performances
- Cleanup the code
clicktoflash, flash, flashblock
A like how much more reliable than FlashBlock this JetPack seems to be, reminding me of ClickToFlash on Safari (I always wondered if someone could port ClickToFlash to Firefox, despite being so Safari specific. I am glad someone did a "in spirit" port.)
I would add the ability to have a white list for sites where Flash should always be loaded, since some sites are just useless without Flash (nobody goes to YouTube for the comments). I would also fix the placement of the icon in the bottom right corner of the window. Relative to my Firebug and Zotero icons, it seems too close to the website content. Maybe add a GitHub/BitBucket repo for the source, so that people can contribute features, make minor fixes?
I am amazed at how short the code is. Jetpack is an amazing add-on if it allows functionality like this to be added so easily.
Hello!,
I've loved the "Flashblock" addon at the addons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433
Having said that, I think that this is a good start. I like the jetpack addons since they do not require a restart to the browser!
"ClickToFlash" is definitely a good start.
My suggestions:
1. Do we actually need an icon in the placeholder? Why not work out something like "flashblock" i.e. block everything by default except for those in the whitelist. And of course, add a right click functionality like flashblock (again). Keep up the good work!
It's less resource hungry.
Ability to be on by default. Since installing, I have to activate the ClickToFlash icon in the status bar. It would be nice if it is active by default.
Thank You! The roadmap info sounds great!
That is a very good start to implement flashbock as jetpack
have a similar behviour as flashblock :
active for all by default
easy to turn off for specified domains
whitelist functions
great roadmap by the way
I'm definitely a fan
